Four of Dayton's premier arts organizations, Dayton Live, Dayton Performing Arts Alliance, The Human Race Theatre Company, and Dayton Contemporary Dance Company recently announced their upcoming 2026-2027 season lineups. It promises to be another spectacular season for arts lovers, and we've put together a short list of the most-anticipated shows from each organization. 1. Dayton Live: Hamilton
March 30 - April 11, 2027 at the Schuster Center
Dayton Live, which operates the Schuster Center, Victoria Theatre, The Loft Theatre and PNC Arts Annex, as well as presenting more than 300 performances each year, is gearing up for its 2026-2027 series. The centerpiece of the season is the return of Hamilton, winner of 11 Tony Awards®, a Grammy®, Oliver Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This groundbreaking musical tells the epic saga of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton as he navigates honor, love, and legacy, profoundly shaping the course of a nation. Dayton Performing Arts Alliance
The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance (DPAA) occupies three of the five spots on our list. The DPAA is unique among arts organizations in this country, combining the Dayton Philharmonic, Dayton Ballet and Dayton Opera into one umbrella organization. Collaboratively and individually, they present a wide range of arts performances each year. Here are three highlights for the upcoming season: one show from each of the three arts groups.
2. Dayton Performing Arts Alliance: West Side Story
September 26 & 27, 2026 at the Schuster Center
Founded in 1933, the Dayton Philharmonic has a distinguished place in Dayton’s history as one of the Miami Valley’s oldest and longest-standing cultural institutions. This season, the Philharmonic joins forces with Dayton Performing Arts Alliance's Opera and Ballet for a spectacular production of West Side Story, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States through one of America's most beloved masterpieces. Featuring Leonard Bernstein's legendary score, this powerful story of community continues to resonate with audiences today. The production is presented in collaboration with the Wright State University School of Fine and Performing Arts.
3. Dayton Ballet: A Midsummer Night's Dream & Force Flux
October 24 & 25, 2026 at Victoria Theatre
The second-oldest ballet company in the United States, Dayton Ballet invites audiences to experience an enchanting evening of contemporary movement, classical music, and Shakespearean magic with Force Flux and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Choreographed by Brandon Ragland and set to Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 13, Force Flux opens the program with bold contemporary movement accompanied by live music from Dayton Philharmonic pianist Joshua Nemith. The dancers then transform the stage into a moonlit forest for A Midsummer Night's Dream, featuring choreography by Alun Jones and music by Felix Mendelssohn. This captivating performance is sure to delight audiences of all ages.
4. Dayton Opera: Opera Is For Lovers
February 13, 2027 at the Schuster Center
Dayton Opera has enriched the cultural life of the Miami Valley for more than 60 years, having performed its first season in 1961–1962. Continuing that tradition of bringing the power and beauty of opera to the community, Opera Is For Lovers puts love center stage. Featuring Dayton Opera soloists alongside Music Director and pianist Howard Watkins, this enchanting evening brings together unforgettable arias, dazzling duets, and soaring vocals for a romantic celebration of opera. This performance promises an evening of music, magic, and passion.
5. The Human Race Theatre Company: Salem: Blood to Drink
October 14-25, 2026 at The Loft Theatre
For nearly 40 years, Dayton's professional equity theatre company has pushed creative boundaries and brought numerous regional and world premiere productions to the stage of the intimate Loft Theatre. For the upcoming 2026-2027 season, The Human Race Theatre Company delves into "Perception vs. Reality", with shows exploring endless surprises and twists. Their season begins with a dark comedy, Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B, written by Kate Hamill and directed by Heather Wilson-Bowlby. This fast-paced romp reimagines the iconic detective duo through a bold feminist lens, following the quirky female roommates Sherlock and Joan as they navigate the challenges of life post-pandemic. These two unconventional sleuths will have you on an adventure filled with laughter, suspense and empowerment as they confront a cunning villain who seems to have all the answers.
6. Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC): Spectra
October 31 & November 1, 2026 at Victoria Theatre
For 58 years, DCDC has been a beacon for contemporary African American dance, continuously uplifting and redefining the art form. This season, they invite you to a mesmerizing celebration of our heritage, and the city we call home with Continuum...Legacy In Motion. This season, Artistic Directress Qarriane Blayr makes her Victoria Theatre debut with Spectra, a captivating program that sets the tone for season 58. Moving through a full spectrum of emotion, from tenderness and joy to tension and power, Spectra showcases the range of DCDC's artistry while celebrating where the company is headed and remaining true to the legacy that has shaped it.
