Dayton Contemporary Dance Company

Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) was founded in 1968 to create performance opportunities for dancers of color. Five decades later, it remains rooted in the African American experience, committed to the development of diverse movement artists on the global stage. Dayton Contemporary Dance Company brings phenomenal artistry to the stage, the classroom and the community.

DCDC celebrates its 57th season in 2024-25: A time for Dancing In Our Light! The 2025-2026 is the year DCDC reflects upon what makes it a shining beacon of dance, community, and innovation in our city of Dayton. Each carefully crafted concert will astound you with the artistic excellence that has been cultivated for nearly 60 years in the Miami Valley. This season glows with a stellar lineup:

♦     In October, see the  Dayton premiere of Amy Hall Garner's collaborative work Splendor, first set on DCDC and the Paul Taylor Dance Company for the American Dance Festival 2025.

♦       Sitting high in the winter sky is the time-honored tradition, The Littlest Angel, returning to the University Of Dayton Boll Theatre, with new gifts for our audiences.

♦      Experience an electrifying evening celebrating Black artistry at the Victoria Theatre during Black History Month, as Dayton Contemporary Dance Company shines in its fullest brilliance.

♦       In April, we unite! Funk music, DCDC, and Dayton Ballet shine on one stage, blending their talents in the vibrant setting of the Victoria Theatre.

A co-recipient of one of the dance world’s highest honors, the 2016 Bessie Award for Outstanding Revival, DCDC has been presented by American Dance Festival, Paul Taylor American Modern Dance, and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, and supported by National Endowment for the Arts and New England Foundation for the Arts among others.

The culturally diverse company is dedicated to exceptional performance and quality community engagement. DCDC has toured the world, dancing onstage for packed houses in Bermuda, Canada, Chile, China, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Poland, Russia, and South Korea.
